The Project
To review the company’s health and safety management system. Provide recommendations for improvements that would help the Board reduce incidents and positively position the company to support tenders.
The Optimation
Optime took a team approach to address the strategic and operational health and safety support Hicks needed. At a strategic level, we designed a framework and management system, reviewing all processes and procedures so they aligned with the direction of the company. We guided the Board on international best practice health and safety and agreed on a way of working, their reporting structure and KPIs. We then worked with teams on the ground to identify and implement tools and simple systems of working safely on sites. We trained and mentored staff on preparing H&S plans and other critical safety planning documentation. The Hicks business was left equipped with tools and advice for every aspect of health and safety from tendering through to handover of sites.
Success
Hicks saw a reduction in injury-related incidents and a positive increase in near-miss reporting. External client audits of sites achieved in excess of 90% compliance in all health and safety audits of sites. Site safety tools for working are now well used, e.g site boards now being implemented in client work sites. Overall, Hicks saw a significant increase in safety awareness, got great feedback from clients and made a positive impact on the industry itself.
